Three members of the Salt Lake City Public Utilities Advisory Committee (PUAC) were honored at the organization’s December 2007 meeting for their public service during their terms on the committee. The PUAC members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Formed in 1979, this citizens organization has been an invaluable asset to the Mayor and City Council, the utility and its customers.

The organization has the duty to annually review the Department of Public Utilities’ annual budget, including capital improvements programs, operations and maintenance revenue and expenditure requirements and recommend rate adjustments. Further, to make recommendations on proposed legislation, water resources and sewage reclamation requirements, and to adopt and alter rules and regulations to promote the public utility system of Salt Lake City and its utility service area. The committee is comprised of nine members, six from Salt Lake City and three from the Salt Lake County service area.

The three retiring members are: current chair Leland Myers current chair, Barbara Ishimatsu and Nancy V. Young. Each member has completed two full 4-year terms on the committee.

In a resolution signed by Mayor Anderson, the Mayor expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation for the their exemplary contribution to the duties and goals of the Department of Public Utilities

Public Utilities director Jeff Niermeyer, expressed his appreciation to the retiring committee members, noting that the department had greatly benefited from their participation as citizens in the business of managing the utility.
