On August 20, 2007, the Department of Public Utilities received the certificate from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) honoring the Water Reclamation Plant and its employees with a Platinum Peak Performance Award 13 for completing 13 consecutive years of perfect NPDES permit compliance. Overall the plant has received 17 Gold Awards.

At the end of 2006, the wastewater treatment facility had completed 164 consecutive months without a permit violation. The Award recognizes the Reclamation Plant as one of the premier treatment facilities in the United States. Only 91 treatment facilities across the nation received the Platinum Award, which requires 5 consecutive years of perfect compliance. A Gold Award represents a year of perfect compliance.

The Award announcement didn’t identify the number of national wastewater treatment plants that had achieved the same number of consecutive years that Salt Lake City’s Reclamation Plant, but it’s doubtful that many have such an outstanding record of performance.

Moreover as of July 1, 2007, employees of the Water Reclamation Plant have completed 1,168 days without a lost-time accident.

Water Reclamation Manager Dale Christensen thanked the employees, saying “It just stands to show how dedicated we are in staying in compliance, even with all of the plant upgrades and construction.”

The Water Reclamation employees are to be congratulation and appreciated for their outstanding dedication and efforts in making Salt Lake City’s wastewater treatment facility as one of the top performing plant in the United States.
