LEROY HOOTON RETIRES

LeRoy Hooton has retired from the Department of Public Utilities after a distinguished 49-year career, 27 of which were as Director of the department. Jeff Niermeyer has been appointed to replace LeRoy as director.

"LeRoy's service and dedication to Salt Lake City has been tremendous, historic and invaluable to all city residents," Mayor Ross C. Anderson said. "Future generations will feel greatly indebted to LeRoy for his enormous contributions to creating a healthy, sustainable city."

Niermeyer has more than 29 years of experience in water resources management in Utah and Alaska. He has been with Salt Lake City for 16 years, including 10 as deputy director of public utilities.

Hooton’s vast experience includes serving on numerous boards of directors; such as the Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake & Sandy, Central Utah Water Conservancy District, Provo River Water Users Association and the Utah Water Users Association.  He also served on the national AMSA board of directors (Now the National Association of Clean Water Agencies).
